NUKKERWIJK BREDENE VOLT ARCHITECTEN
OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS, THE NUKKERWIJK IN BREDENE WILL UNDERGO SOME MAJOR TRANSFORMATIONS. THE GARDEN CITY IS OUTDATED, THE NUKKERWIJK IS IN NEED OF A REBOOT TO FACE SOME NEW CHALLENGES AHEAD. THE DESIGN, SITUATED AT THE MAURICE LAGRÉVIÈRESTRAAT IS JUST ONE OF MANY NEW PROJECTS IN THIS NEIGHBOURHOOD.
THE VOLUME IS PLANTED ON THE SITE IN SUCH A WAY THAT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BUILDING, A NEW AND MEANINGFUL ANNEX TO THE EXISTING PUBLIC SPACE EMERGES. BY CREATING MANY DIFFERENT SHAPES AND FACADES, A HIERARCHAL, DISTINCT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "THE FRONT AND THE BACK OF THE BUILDING" IS AVOIDED.
EVERY SINGLE APPARTMENT IS CONCEIVED SO THAT IT CAN ENJOY DAYLIGHT ALL DAY LONG AND HAS A VIEW OVER THE PARK AND THE PATHWAYS. IN ADDITION TO THE JOINT GREEN SPACE, EACH UNIT HAS A SMALL TERRACE OVERLOOKING THE PARK AS WELL.
THE DESIGN ALSO TRIES TO STIMULATE CONTACT BETWEEN THE RESIDENTS AND NEIGHBOURS BY MAKING THE HALLWAYS AND OTHER JOINT SPACES SLIGHTLY BIGGER THAN NECESSARY. THE HALLWAY IS NO LONGER JUST A PLACE TO PASS THROUGH, IT ACTUALLY BECOMES A PLACE OF ENCOUNTER.
